REDRESS WIRE: Rashawn Moffitt charged with December murder in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has filed murder charges against Rashawn Davone Moffitt, 39, in connection with the December 2025 shooting death of Raejuan Jones, 26, according to court records.

Charging documents allege Moffitt knowingly killed Jones on Dec. 20, 2025, in St. Joseph County. He is charged with murder, unlawful carrying of a handgun as a Level 5 felony, and a felony firearm enhancement.

According to a probable cause affidavit, South Bend police responded to reports of shots fired near Taylor Street and Indiana Avenue around 9:12 p.m. Officers found Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died at the scene. Investigators recovered video showing a white Jeep leaving the area shortly after the shooting.

The affidavit states a witness later told investigators Moffitt shot Jones following an argument. Phone and vehicle location data placed Moffitt, the victim, and a witness together shortly before the shooting, according to police.

A judicial officer found probable cause and issued an arrest warrant. Court records indicate Moffitt is being held without bond pending an initial hearing.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
