Investigation Reveals Racist Harassment of South Bend Councilman; Mayor and Common Council Accused of Ignoring Issue

Racial Voicemails

South Bend, Indiana – The disconcerting revelations surrounding Councilman Henry Davis Jr. and the racially charged voicemails he has received bring to light an alarming reality of racial harassment. The entity 'Redress South Bend' has exposed over 40 anonymous voicemails filled with racial slurs, claims of "white supremacy", and cruel expressions of delight at the death of a person of color.

These staggering voicemail messages, delivered to Councilman Davis over the course of half a year, underscore the appalling racial torment he has been forced to bear. In all, Councilman Davis has been subjected to more than 200 anonymous calls from this same person over a period of three years. Our inquiry has only brought to light the most recent communications.

The Response

The response of Mayor Mueller and the Common Council to these egregious incidents is deeply troubling and wholly unacceptable. Councilman Davis' legitimate concerns about this racial harassment were not only dismissed but were shockingly met with advice from Mayor Mueller to consider resigning if he finds the situation too challenging. This response is an appalling abdication of leadership and a blatant disregard for the severity of racial harassment.

Furthermore, Mayor Mueller's accusation that Councilman Davis’ "political theatrics" contributed to the hostility is an outrageous attempt to deflect responsibility and blame the victim. Such a response from a leader supposed to represent all citizens is reprehensible. We must hold Mayor Mueller to account for his dismissive and insensitive response to these hateful acts.

We implore the public to listen to these voicemails and read the related emails. If anyone is able to identify the voice behind these abhorrent messages, we urge you to come forward with any information you may have. This incident underscores the pressing need for greater public awareness and decisive action against racial harassment.

Update

In a significant development, Redress South Bend has managed to uncover the identity of the individual responsible for the troubling calls. This critical information has been shared with the FBI. Where Henry Davis Jr. currently has a complaint with the FBI Indianapolis Field Office. I can confirm this, as an agent has personally reached out to me to learn more about the story. We aim to provide additional updates as the situation unfolds. In a disturbing twist, even though Davis has transitioned to a private citizen's role and vacated his official position, the anonymous caller continues to subject him to harassment. It's clear that the caller's actions have taken a deeply personal turn, further emphasizing the urgent need to address this issue.
