Redress South Bend — In a November 14th press conference, Jorden Giger, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, called for transparency in the investigation concerning South Bend Common Council President Sharon McBride. The call for clarity follows allegations of misconduct during Sharon McBride's tenure as director of the Ducomb Center, which led to her dismissal earlier this year.
Giger, addressing the media, highlighted the community's growing concerns over the lack of updates regarding the investigation into Sharon McBride's alleged misconduct. Since the allegations surfaced in February, Giger reported that there has been public anticipation for information on the investigation's progress and preliminary findings.
"We are tax-paying citizens," Giger emphasized, "She is a public official. This investigation is being funded by public dollars. Taxpayer dollars and therefore we deserve to know what is the status of this investigation? Where are we? When will it be completed? "
The press conference underscored the urgency for an update from the county commissioners, citing the need for accountability and clarity. Giger pointed to ongoing rumors and the impact of Sharon McBride’s alleged actions on the community, urging the commissioners to provide insights into the investigation's findings, including the number of people interviewed and potential patterns of misconduct.
Further complicating the issue, Giger shared personal experiences with Sharon McBride, including allegations where McBride filed a false police report against him among other items. "We remain committed to our demand that Sharon McBride resign from the Common Council," Giger stated. "How can she uphold her fiduciary responsibility to the city of South Bend, if she, allegedly you know, has misappropriated money, stole money, padded her pockets, padded her family members' pockets allegedly. "
The press conference concluded with a renewed appeal to the media to ask pressing questions of the commissioners and amplify the voices of those affected by Sharon McBride's alleged actions. Giger's call to action underscores the broader demand for transparency and integrity within public office.
UPDATE: After speaking with county officials, it has been confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information can be reported at this time during the ongoing investigation.
